Legacy of Love

One rainy day in 1975, my grandmother taught me how to crochet. I soon realized how relaxing the repetitive motion of the yarn moving slowly through my fingers was soothing as well as productive. I could make useable items like dish clothes and kitchen towels and that made me feel powerful. Once I graduated to small blankets I learned how much I like to create with color and then design followed. I started with making baby blankets for new mothers. Anyone having a baby received my creation whether they wanted one or not. Now I sell my work and I use the profit to buy the yarn needed to crochet a lap blanket for our wounded veterans for free. My husband is a wounded veteran so crocheting still has that soothing gift when we go from doctor's office to doctor's office. Crochet gives me the opportunity to be still and listen to my Heavenly Father quietly give me His strength to keep going with a smile. My beautiful grandmother is gone now but I think of her every time I crochet and that makes my heart happy.
